POST RANCH INN HOTEL REVIEW
Perched 1,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean, Post Ranch Inn is nestled along the breathtaking cliffs of Big Sur in California. It was my first time traveling to Big Sur for my fiancés Ryan’s birthday and I immediately fell in love. The hotel’s rustic yet elegant architecture blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings, creating a sense of romance, serenity, and peace. The history behind the hotel is quite fascinating: the Post family worked this land for generations, first as a homestead and later as a farm.
The Room
There are 40 rooms on the property. We stayed in one of their coastal house rooms. Our room featured a king bed with an organic bed, a wood-burning fireplace, an indoor spa tub, organic products, and a complimentary mini-bar. There are no alarm clocks or televisions which I appreciated fully disconnecting.
What I loved most was our private porch with stairs leading down to a secluded bench where we spent our mornings meditating and romantic afternoons soaking in the sunset.
Activities
During our stay, we enjoyed walking the trails on the property. My favorite activity was the falconry workshop with Antonio, where we got to fly different birds of prey—a truly unique experience. I also enjoyed the forest meditation, where we learned about the rich history of Big Sur and connected with 400 year old trees. Think tree-hugger vibes. The edible garden tour was another favorite, where we explored the hotel’s garden and tasted vegetables, fruits and flowers grown for Sierra Mar’s kitchen. They also offer morning yoga and sound journey meditations. All the activities are complimentary except for the falconry.
The Restaurant
Sierra Mar overlooks the ocean and offers a seasonal menu focusing on nostalgic California cuisine and an award-winning wine list. Upon arrival, we had lunch at Sierra Mar, ordering caviar, a baby green salad, and the fried chicken katsu sandwich which were all exceptional. On our last night we tried their full 5-course meal which was very delicious.
The Pools
There are three pools on the property, and we enjoyed them all. We visited the lap pool after a long hike, had sunset cocktails at the jade pool, and went to the meditation pool at midnight to enjoy the stars and see a bunch of baby bats.
Closing
Post Ranch Inn is easily one of the most beautiful hotel properties in North America. I really enjoyed hiking, swimming, relaxing, eating, and sleeping. I’m dreaming of the day we can go back!
