Charleston Santa Teresa Hotel in Cartagena

Hotel Review: Charleston Santa Teresa, Cartagena, Colombia

I recently traveled to Cartagena for my good friend Melissa and JD’s wedding, and my stay at the Charleston Santa Teresa was nothing short of exceptional. Colombia had been on my travel list for some time. After researching top luxury hotels in Cartagena with the help of my travel agent, I chose Charleston Santa Teresa.

Location and Ambiance

More than 400 years of history surround the Cloister of Santa Teresa walls, making this hotel a striking yellow beam of colonial splendor by day and a softly lit beacon of glamour by night. Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and luxurious properties in the UNESCO-listed city of Cartagena.

One fun fact I learned is that the hotel was once a 17th-century convent. The colonial style has been meticulously preserved. Every corner of the hotel reflects the charm of Cartagena, enhanced by indoor vertical gardens that turn the Republican and Colonial Courtyards into tranquil oases.

My Room

I stayed in the Premier Deluxe City View Room. The room was spacious, elegant, and designed with a perfect balance of modern luxury and historic charm. The plush king-sized bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was well-appointed with high-end amenities.

The highlight of the room was the view—it overlooked the vibrant streets of Cartagena’s Old Town. Watching the lively city from my window, with its colorful colonial buildings and bustling atmosphere, was an experience in itself.

Dining

Upon arrival, my room was not ready, so I decided to have lunch in the hotel’s main restaurant, the Republican Patio. The menu is led by Harry Sasson, one of Colombia’s most renowned chefs. Known for his acclaimed restaurant in Bogotá, Sasson brings his expertise and creativity to Charleston Santa Teresa.

Republican Patio serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with breakfast starting at 6:30 AM and dinner service running until 11:00 PM.

Overall Experience

Charleston Santa Teresa is a masterpiece of luxury and history, blending colonial charm with contemporary elegance. Its central location, world-class service, and beautiful design make it a standout choice for anyone visiting Cartagena. Whether you’re here for a wedding, a romantic getaway, or to explore the vibrant culture of this UNESCO city, Charleston Santa Teresa promises an unforgettable stay.

If you are traveling to Cartagena – definitely stay at this hotel!
