Capella Hotels and Resorts was recently named the #1 Hotel Brand in the World by Travel + Leisure, and after spending two nights at Capella Hanoi, I can see exactly why.
From the moment we landed in Hanoi, the Capella experience began. The hotel arranged a private airport transfer where we were greeted with cool drinks and light snacks — such a thoughtful touch after a long flight. By the time we arrived at the property, tucked into the heart of Hanoi’s French Quarter, everything felt seamless.
Designed by Bill Bensley, the hotel is a jewel box of 1920s opera-inspired glamour. With just 47 rooms and suites, it feels boutique and intimate, yet every corner bursts with character — velvet drapes, vintage records, dramatic lighting, and whimsical nods to the world of opera. Unlike larger chains, Capella Hanoi feels like stepping into a story.
We stayed in the Capella Suite, which offered not only plush interiors but also balconies overlooking the city. The sound of motorbikes drifting up from the streets below gave it that unmistakable Hanoi charm. The suite was filled with theatrical design details — antique-style furnishings, bold colors, and an atmosphere that was both playful and luxurious.
The bathroom was a highlight: a marble sanctuary with a deep soaking tub that became my personal retreat after long days of exploring. The little touches — Capella-branded amenities, soft robes, fresh fruit waiting in the room — made it feel truly indulgent.
Capella Hanoi is home to Koki, a 14-seat Michelin-starred teppanyaki restaurant that was one of the most unique dining experiences we’ve had on our travels. Watching the chef craft each dish in such an intimate setting made dinner feel like theater.
Breakfast, however, was my favorite part. Thanks to our travel agent Tiffany, breakfast was included, and it was not to be missed. The buffet and à la carte menu combined international and local dishes — think fresh pastries, tropical fruit, and Vietnamese specialties. I quickly made the steaming bowls of pho my daily ritual, sometimes even going back for a second serving at lunch.
Although small in size, the hotel features a beautiful indoor pool, styled like a glamorous Roman bath. It’s tranquil, softly lit, and perfect for a midday swim or a reset after sightseeing. The spa offers a curated selection of treatments, though we didn’t have time to indulge this visit.
One of the advantages of staying with Capella is how effortlessly they organize personalized experiences. The team arranged a private city tour for us, where we explored Hanoi’s historic highlights with a guide who tailored everything to our pace. It was the perfect way to experience the city without feeling rushed.
Service at Capella Hanoi was flawless from start to finish. One of the general managers stood out in particular – in the morning before our tour he made sure I had a to-go box from breakfast so I could bring snacks along, which I thought was such a kind and personal touch. He even took the time to chat with me about my travels, which made the experience feel warm. I love when luxury hotels go beyond polished service and add that human connection- it’s those moments that truly stay with you.
Capella Hanoi manages to balance theatrical flair with intimate luxury. It’s not just a hotel — it’s an experience that draws you into Hanoi’s spirit while giving you a glamorous home base.
If you’re heading to Vietnam’s capital and love boutique luxury with character, world-class dining, and thoughtful service, Capella Hanoi is absolutely worth the stay.
