Self-care is a powerful way to nurture the mind, body, and spirit—especially for those navigating life’s challenges. My mom and I wanted to create something meaningful for the youth at Orangewood Foundation, an organization that supports young people transitioning out of the foster care system. With the help of small businesses from Etsy, we created self-care and art kits filled with intention and care.
Each self-care kit included reusable totes that said “I am love,” intention candles, journals, blankets, lavender teas, crystals, socks, and headbands—items chosen to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and self-reflection.
We also curated art kits with canvas bags, paints, and canvases, encouraging creative expression as a form of healing. Art provides an outlet for emotions, a way to process experiences, and a reminder that every individual’s story is uniquely beautiful.
Self-care is an essential practice, especially for those navigating change. Taking even a few moments to light a candle, write in a journal, or create something with their hands can provide a sense of peace, grounding, and self-worth.
Supporting Orangewood and collaborating with independent creatives made this project even more special. It’s a reminder that small, thoughtful actions can make a big impact.
