Nobu Ryokan Malibu Review

Nobu Ryokan Malibu is a luxurious boutique hotel offering a seamless blend of Japanese hospitality and Californian coastal charm. Renovated from a historic 1950s-era motel, this exclusive retreat redefines serenity with its minimalist design, naturally stained teak and ipe woods, and tranquil atmosphere. Situated on Malibu’s coveted Carbon Beach, the Ryokan provides a front-row seat to breathtaking ocean views and a calming connection to nature.

I have stayed in all three room types—the Beachfront Room, Garden Room, and Ocean Room. Each offers its own unique charm, from the soothing ocean breeze and panoramic water views to the lush privacy of the garden setting. Every room is exquisitely designed with Japanese soaking tubs, sliding shoji doors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the outdoors in, creating a sanctuary of relaxation.

As a small boutique hotel, its intimacy adds to the charm, and being next door to the iconic Nobu Malibu restaurant. I loved eating dinner at Nobu with stunning ocean views or enjoying in-room dining for a private sushi feast in the comfort of my room.

Nobu Ryokan Malibu is a true gem, perfect for those seeking an indulgent escape. Its blend of refined luxury, exceptional service, and breathtaking location make it an unforgettable destination.

Room Tour

Pros:

  • You are right on the beach, with direct access to the sand and the soothing sound of waves.
  • As a guest, you can indulge in world-class Nobu sushi, either at the iconic restaurant next door or through in-room dining.
  • The rooms are absolutely stunning, with minimalist, elegant designs featuring teak and ipe wood, Japanese soaking tubs, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Cons:

  • The hotel is small, which enhances its exclusivity but means no spa. However, in-room spa treatments are available.
  • You cannot use the pool.
  • It’s very very pricey.
