Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, has the ultimate boho, laid-back vibes. It feels like Tulum did back in the day—before it became a hotspot for parties and crowds. If you’re looking for a place to chill, relax, and enjoy some good food then you should add Santa Teresa to your travel list.
ARRIVING IN PARADISE
I flew into San Jose from LA, stayed the night, and then hopped on a tiny plane the next morning to get to Santa Teresa. The flight was quick—about 25 minutes—and the views as we flew in were gorgeous. This was my first trip with Ryan, who’s now my fiancé, so it felt extra special. When I landed Ryan picked me up and we ended up giving a ride to a solo traveler I met on the plane who was headed the same way.
We drove through the winding dirt roads to the house that Ryan and his friends had rented for the week. The house was beautiful with a pool and views of the ocean.
EXPLORING SANTA TERESA
Getting around Santa Teresa is easiest with an ATV. The roads are pretty rugged, and cruising around on an ATV is a fun way to explore the area.
The town itself is a bohemian stretch lined with delicious restaurants, quirky clothing shops, co-working spots, boutique hotels, ice cream cafes, yoga studios, and eco-stores. Santa Teresa is the perfect place to slow down, recharge, and dive into the relaxed vibe—whether you’re interested in trying yoga, catching a few waves, or just soaking up sun.
MY FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT
The Bakery is perfect for breakfast—they have the best avocado toast and smoothies.
Banana Beach Restaurant is great for a casual lunch by the beach.
Casa Del Mar is a must for dinner – great steaks.
Eat Street for food trucks serving tacos, ceviche, and other local eats.
Katana Asian Cuisine is the place to go for Asian cuisine.
Santa Teresa is truly magical. It is the perfect spot to unplug and experience the true essence of Costa Rica.
