As a big foodie, I love trying new foods and always look up top dishes to try whenever I’m traveling. I recommend going to Albert Cuyp Market which has has all of these foods to try.

1. Stroopwafels

These iconic Dutch treats are a sweet must-have. A stroopwafel consists of two thin, crispy waffle layers with a gooey caramel syrup filling in between. The most popular stroopwafels are at Van Wonder Stroopwafels – selling over 1 million a years

2. Poffertjes

For the adventurous eater, herring is a classic Dutch delicacy. Often served raw, it’s typically garnished with onions and pickles. These fluffy, mini pancakes are a delightful treat. Made with a yeast-based batter, poffertjes are light and airy, often served with a dusting of powdered sugar and a pat of butter. My fiance Ryan and I loved these!

4. Dutch Cheese

The Netherlands is famous for its cheese, and Amsterdam is the perfect place to sample it. Gouda, Edam, and Leyden are just a few varieties to try. Visit a cheese shop or a local market to taste different types and discover your favorite. I tried a grilled cheese sandwich that was delicious!

5. Bitterballen

These savory Dutch snacks are a pub favorite. Bitterballen are deep-fried balls filled with a creamy beef or veal ragout. They’re typically served with mustard for dipping and are a perfect to pair with a cold beer

Patatje Oorlog, which translates to “war fries,” is a beloved Dutch street food that consists of thick-cut fries topped with a mix of mayonnaise, satay sauce (peanut sauce), and often raw onions
