The IBTU team organized our first assembly at Marina Del Ray Middle School focused on promoting self-esteem, personal growth, and strategies to overcome test-taking anxiety. We collaborated with HoopBus, an incredible nonprofit with a mission to use basketball as a way to build community and spread love.
During the event, we also did giveaways of gift cards and shoes. Each student also received a “Show What You Know” t-shirt designed by Molly – Tyrone’s wife.
About It’s Bigger Than US
Established in 2020, the mission of IBTU is to provide solution-based resources to underserved families so all communities can thrive. We accomplish this by building safety in the communities by working collaboratively with community members and community-based organizations to address the social factors that drive disparities, such as poverty and discrimination.
IBTU also focuses on building trust with the community, bringing resources, and building power to bring changes needed for healthier communities.
About Hoopbus
(FROM WEBSITE) The Hoopbus all begin on the beach by the founders of Veniceball, at the courts many know as Hoopers Paradise, the home of west coast streetball. People visit from across the country and ask how we can bring this environment to their city or town. So near the end of 2019, we bought a 40ft yellow school bus, and put some hoops on it with the goal of taking it across the country!
Months later the basketball world was shocked by Kobe’s passing, and we decided to collage the roof of the interior as a memorial to Kobe, which you can still see throughout the bus.
