What is Nine Hours?

Nine Hours is modern capsule hotel located in Japan’s most popular cities including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Magoa, Fukuoka and Sendai. All hotels are located within 3 minutes of major airports, train stations, or the central part of town. The name Nine Hours refers to their concept that you only need 9 hours at the hotel: one hour to get ready for bed, seven hours to sleep, and one hour to get up in the morning. However, you can check in 24 hours a day and use the hotel facilities for as little as an hour. You can even come in for a quick shower making it convenient for travelers in transit or maybe you had too much sake to drink and need to take a nap. To sum it up, Nine Hours is an urban human recharging station.

As soon as you walk into the hotel lobby, you will notice that it is designed in a modern futuristic way with monochrome décor and clean lines with minimalist iconography. Upon check in, you will be handed a pajama set with slippers and a locker number to store your luggage.

There are separate floors for female and male and have color-coded elevators: red for female and black for male. There are no co-ed capsules, so this is great for solo travelers, groups of friends of the same sex or if you want to a break from your significant other.

I am not too sure about the other Nine Hours, but the Shinjuku location has a co-working space with high speed wi-fi making it convenient for people who have to work remotely or check their Instagram. 😉

Once you take the elevator to your floor, you will see very clean and modern bathrooms with lockers. This is where you can shower, put on your pajama set and find your sci-fi looking capsule. Each capsule has a built-in Panasonic system that relaxes you into sleep and then wakes you up at a set time by changing the light.

I am generally not a hostel hotel kind of a girl, I am more of a 5-star Four Seasons girl but I can truly say that if you have a love for new and interesting things then you should definitely check out Nine Hours – if even for a quick nap or shower!
