It All Started in Italy

“The past is never where you think you left it.”

Katherine Anne Porter

I’ve been thinking about how fast time is flying by, it feels like a blink of the eye. 2019 dashed by so fast – I can’t even imagine how 2020 will feel.

I’ve shared the fact that the first time I left the country was when I was 17 years old. My mom saved up her money for over a year, as well as used her yearly bonus, to afford our trip to Italy. I will forever be grateful for this experience because it expanded my perspective and taught me that there was so much to see and explore in this world.

Although my blog is focused on luxury travel, that is not how I started.

You do not have to be rich to travel but you have to be smart about how you save and spend your money. Find the best deals out there, just like my mom did.

What sparked this post was my coming across old photos from that trip to Italy. Looking back, reflecting and laughing at how “cool” I thought I was. Reminiscing is such an important thing, I think we should all do it from time to time.

Looking back at old Italy photos… prompted me to look back at old high school photos. It feels like it was another life, another me.

My mom and me eating sushi in Italy, seems quite fitting.
The look my mom gave me the entire trip. ( I was a raging teen with an attitude)

It’s quite interesting seeing your younger self and your best friends at the time. I had friends who I could not live without and now I barely talk to them. Unfortunately, some of my closest friends are not so close to me anymore.

I love seeing how far I have come. I look back and realize how much of a true nerd I was (still am). Being super tall and skinny made me the odd one out during high school.

Now days when we travel, we are looking for that picture perfect scene but I am finding that it lacks soul and character. I love the ridiculous silly photos of myself. It reminds me that we shouldn’t take everything in life so seriously.

Every step along the way has made me who I am today… and, who knows, maybe, in 5 years, I will look back on who I am today and feel the same. It’s one of the interesting things about life.
